Sean Kirby has been a long-time member of the Frederick community. His father, John Kirby, was a Certified Public Accountant and worked as a comptroller for a car dealership when Sean was very young. In the 1970s, John Kirby decided that he wanted to purchase his own car dealership in Frederick. He approached Alvey Renn about this matter. Mr. Renn had started his dealership, Renn Pontiac, in 1938. In 1978, Mr. Renn sold his dealership to John Kirby. With this purchase, the dealership became known as “Renn Kirby Pontiac.” When John Kirby made this purchase, it included the real estate on 15 East 6th Street, 622 North Market Street, and a portion of the property at 526 North Market Street.
Sean was twelve years old when his father made this small business purchase. With it, he began helping his father with the dealership. He grew up spending his time outside of his studies at Frederick High School sweeping the shop and cleaning cars in downtown Frederick. He watched as Mayor Ron Young helped to develop Frederick City into what it is today. He saw the development of Carroll Creek. He attended the very first “In the Streets” event in 1983. Needless to say, he quickly fell in love with the town and the dealership. So much so that in 1992, when he was twenty-five years old, he began to purchase the dealership from his father. Sean has helped Renn Kirby continue to be one of Frederick’s longest running businesses since it was conceived in 1938 by Alvey Renn.
Sean continued to grow the business that his father and Mr. Renn had worked so diligently to create. Over the years since he purchased the dealership, Sean has moved locations from the downtown area to Urbana Pike and now (as of May 2023) a new location on Route 85. However, he opted to keep ownership of the real estate properties over the years. He continued to accumulated real estate and with it came the responsibility of its management. Thus, Shamrock Property Management was born to create a structured approach to manage the growing real estate portfolio. He has since hired a team to assist with his management efforts and bring quality service to individuals looking to invest in real estate in Frederick County.
